Yummy Synonyms

Here is a picture of a fun synonym activity that I got from The First Grade Parade. My students had a blast.  They became synonym chefs (hats and all) and created these fun synonym rolls. I love these types of activities!!

Technology Tip Tuesday

I know that this post is a few days late, but I had to share my favorite technology tip! It is ClassDojo!!!

I absolutely LOVE this behavior management system. No more moving clips, changing color, or filling out long weekly behavior report cards!  This system worked well with my students last year and  is working pretty well this school year. I highly recommend this to any teacher!! Check them out at http://www.classdojo.com/about

Welcome to Our Garden

Here are a few more pictures of my garden themed classroom. I love the way the pennants came out. Overall the room is colorful and inviting... Mission accomplished! Our curriculum night is in a few weeks and I really want to showcase the students' work.

View of the door from the hall
I loved making this easy reversible valance.  The other side is striped with a polka dot boarder. The pennants on the door read "Welcome to Our Garden." The pennants were cut by hand with pinking shears and sewn to a thin red ribbon. The letters were cut with the Cricut using black fabric and heat and bond.

Math Display using scrapbook paper
I love this display for math work. This display is similar to the one inside my room. I used my old scrapbook paper. It was laminated and hot glued to the wall. The title was accented by the students. They wrote different math related pictures.
Blooming Work display with timeline projects
This board is really the star of my displays. I am currently displaying student created timelines.

A.R. Goal Chart
This chart will be used to track the students' AR progress. I will label the flowers different percents. As students progress, they can move their name to the next flower.

Watch Us Grow

I am really excited about this school year. I have a great group of students who are ready to bloom.  This is the first full week of school and my room is fully decorated. Next week I'll post some pictures of my Common Core bulletin board and student work displays.

Curriculum Night will be here before I know it... I think I'll send some Save the Date cards to increase attendance. Last year my QR code water bottles were popular with the parents that attended.  A quick round of "Are You Smarter than a 2nd Grader" would be fun! What fun things do you do for Curriculum Night?

Pennants and Pom-Poms

Here are a few updated pictures of my classroom. This year I'm using a Garden Theme. I really love the way it's coming together.

Back Bulletin Board Heading
Reversible valance and welcome pennant
I plan to add more pennants to the door. Maybe something like, "Welcome to Our Garden!"

Hallway Decor
I think these flowers are adorable. They compliment my table signs.

The pennants are my favorite part! What's your classroom theme?

Back to School!

It's that time again! My summer break is quickly coming to an end. I did get a chance to start on my classroom decorations and get the room back in order. I'm really excited about my new theme. This year's theme will be "Watch Us Grow in Mrs. Phyall's Garden!"
Here are a few pictures of my progress so far:
This is my reversible valance.

Hallway (I still need to add stems to the flowers.)

The walls and bulletin board are pretty bare. I think I will cut some fun letters using the Cricut! I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
